Prediction: The Packers Will Win the NFC North
Some dude named Bryce McCrae at KFFL.com’s Fantasy Sports Blog believes the Pack will win the NFC North no matter if Brent Faver plays for the Vikings. There’s not much we don’t already know about our beloved Packers, but it’s nice to see someone on the bandwagon.
“Aaron Rodgers should be given a longer leash this year. Some felt he held himself back to be more of a system quarterback instead of letting his own personality take over. He was the anti-Favre, so to speak. This A-Rod makes good decisions, and he has enough arm strength to make all the throws he’s asked to do. He also answered the injury question by playing through a shoulder injury last year and making some impressive throws“
Packers’ Profits Making Other Fancy-Pants NFL Owners Look Bad
I’m not sure if this is a compliment to the Packers, or a reprimand, but Ross Tucker at SI.com’s Inside the NFL says the Packers $20M in operating profits is making guys like Dan Snyder and Robert Kraft look bad? How, in this economy, did the Packers manage to make so much money? And why is it that other teams are laying people off? Tucker says the Packers have some questions to answer at the next owners meeting, but it sounds to me like those big-time, deep-pocketed owners have the answering to do. Tucker says that the Packers should have spent more on free agents instead of signing their own players in order to not make everyone else look bad. Does that make sense to you?
“The Packers have elected to be exceptionally frugal in recent years when it comes to player compensation. Ted Thompson and company have been non-existent in the free agent market the past three years. Instead, they have just given extensions to players already under contract like Aaron Rodgers and Greg Jennings in order to reach the mandated salary floor. That strategy is good for business and arguably a sound football decision, but it doesn’t do the other owners any favors when the end of the fiscal year financial information is released by the Packers.“
Johnny Won’t Be So Jolly (sorry) If He Can’t Play
The Green Bay Press Gazzette is feeding us bad news about the Pack’s D-line. Johnny Jolly’s got legal trouble and it may keep him off the field for four games. Let’s hope Justin Harrell really can make it through the first four games without blowing a gasket.
“If he’s found guilty, it’s a given NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will suspend him, probably for the first four games of this season, for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy. Goodell usually waits until dispensation of a case for first-time offenders of the policy before determining whether to penalize the player, so if Jolly is found not guilty, it’s a given he won’t be fined or suspended.“
